Truth be told, you won’t believe how simple it is to make your own homemade dryer sheets! I’m sharing a few different ways to make your own at home. Most of us do multiple loads of laundry each week without ever thinking about how much money we’re throwing away or our impact on the environment.
You can either make them at home yourself or purchase them from the store. From there, you simply need to add them to the dryer with your laundry. Lavender– Lavender is a very calming, relaxing essential oil with a lovely floral scent. This one is my favorite for laundry soap and dryer sheets. Even if you’re not concerned about store-bought dryer sheets being safe, you’re still throwing money away with every dryer sheet you use.

These cancer-causing agents are released through our dryer vents, causing them to be spewed into the air we breathe. Wring the excess solution out from 2 sheets. Take 1 sheet from the bowl and twist it so that it's no longer dripping wet. Set it aside, then take another sheet out of the bowl.
Store the dried cloths in an open container. Put 12 squares in a large bowl and add 1 cup of fabric softener. Using your hands or a spoon, work the fabric softener into the cloths until they’re fully saturated.

Wring the fabric softener from the squares. Working 1 fabric square at a time, pluck them out of the bowl, then twist them to squeeze out the excess liquid. Smooth out the wrinkles caused by the wringing, then set them aside. I have to wash my lint screen every couple of weeks, even without using dryer sheets. Our washer/dryer set is 10+ years old — and definitely due for replacement — so the screen doesn’t clean as easily as it used to.
Stir them together carefully with a spoon so that you don't create any bubbles or froth. You’ll want to DEFINITELY wring them all out. Dryer sheets aren’t biodegradable, so they add to landfills. They can also be harmful to pets, which seem to be fascinated by their texture.
Combining Hair Conditioner and Vinegar
Conventional dryer sheets are typically made from polyester fabric that is both durable and stiff. However, I have found there is no need to go out and buy specific dryer sheet fabric, in that any old fabric lying around will work just fine. These dryer sheets won't last forever and will eventually start to fray. Because of this, consider using old, ruined, or stained fabric rather than brand-new fabric. The next time you do laundry, take a sheet and toss it into the dryer along with the rest of the laundry. When the cycle finishes, take the sheet out and put it back into the container with the other sheets.

Once the softener in a given washcloth is all used up, you can dip the cloth in the liquid again, leave it to dry, and put it to good use once more. Just stumbled on to your post as I was looking for dryer sheet ideas. Regular fabric softener sheets are loaded with harmful chemicals and fragrances. Though they smell nice, they can cause skin reactions as well as other health complications.
Just make sure you spritz them with a little water, and fasten a safety pin to one of them before starting the load. The safety pin is what keeps static electricity from building up. Pair your homemade dryer sheets with wool dryer balls, and your laundry will be fresh, soft, and free of static cling.
Don't speed the process up by using a clothes dryer. If you have sensitive skin, pull on a pair of rubber gloves. Alternatively, use a stick or jar to press the fabric squares down. Soak the fabric squares in the fabric softener.

Homemade dryer sheets work great, won’t smell and leave your clothes free of static cling. I’ve played around with quite a few recipes to find the ones I like best. Also, I love being able to choose the ingredients I use in them, as I can use my favorite natural essential oils to make my clothes smell clean and fresh. You decide to do your laundry one day and as you are preparing to put the wet clothes in the dryer, you realize the box of dryer sheets is empty. Or maybe you simply cannot justify fitting a box of anti static dryer sheets within your budget right now. If for whatever reason making dryer sheets is not an option, an alternative to dryer sheets is wool dryer balls.
